SHIVANGI DESHWAL

Hello
I am a professional social worker who specialises in VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls). I offer one-on-one feminist counselling sessions rooted in feminist social work practice, specifically designed for women experiencing or recovering from violence. With over a decade of experience in gender-based violence, I use the feminist praxis model in casework/counselling. With a survivor-centred lens that is deeply informed by feminist ethics of care and justice.
Feminist Counselling – A Supportive Space for Your Healing Journey
I know that talking about violence can feel overwhelming. It’s normal to feel anxious, scared, confused or even ashamed when you think about what you’ve been through. If you’re here, it means you’re ready to take a step toward healing, and I want to start by saying thank you. Reaching out is an act of courage, and I’m here to walk with you through this process with care, respect and without judgment.
Feminist counselling is how I approach this work. It’s about recognising that violence is not a personal failure but a response to larger societal issues like patriarchy, stigma, and inequality. It’s also about seeing your story as unique and valid while helping you feel empowered to make choices that support your well-being.
What Feminist Counselling Means to Me
Validation
When you share your experience, I want you to know that your emotions are completely normal. Fear, anger, sadness, confusion - these are not signs of weakness but natural responses to what you’ve endured. I’m here to support you in feeling and working through these emotions without pressure.
Normalization
You are not alone. Many women face similar challenges and struggles. Talking about them helps reduce the isolation and shame that often come with abuse. Together, we create a space where it’s okay to be vulnerable.
Depathologizing
The challenges you are experiencing are not because something is “wrong” with you. Abuse is a societal issue, not a personal defect. I help you look at your story with compassion and understand how external forces impact your experience.
Reframing
Your reactions, behaviours and choices are seen as natural responses to difficult situations rather than as signs that you are “weak” or “broken.” This helps you rebuild trust in yourself and your ability to move forward.

My approach is built on a few key principles that guide how I work with each person:
-
Self-determination – I support you in making informed decisions that feel right for you
-
Individualisation – You are seen as a whole person, not defined by your relationships or circumstances
-
Non-judgmental acceptance – I offer a space where you can be yourself without fear of criticism or blame
-
Participation – You are an active partner in shaping your healing journey
-
Confidentiality – Your privacy is always respected, and you decide how much you want to share

Supporting You in Crisis and Beyond
Most women reach out when they are in crisis, when something shakes their sense of safety, health or relationships. I’m here to support you in the moment, helping you feel grounded and regain control.
If you choose, we can also work on long-term healing. Together, we can develop tools that foster resilience, self-confidence, and peace of mind. I can also guide you toward additional support options, such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which specialises in trauma care.

How much do I charge?
I share details about fees when you’re ready to begin. There are flexible options available to ensure cost is not a barrier to your healing.
Can I book online?
Yes, you can easily book sessions through the website. Instructions are provided to help you schedule your first appointment at a time that works for you.
